The reciprocally modifying effect of schizophrenia and diabetes mellitus on their phenotypic manifestations

Dvirskiy AA

The frequency of diabetes mellitus of II type in schizophrenic patients is lower than in population. Total theoretic frequency of diabetes of II type and schizophrenia association is 4.2%, that in 3.8 times lower of its real frequency (1.1%). Schizophrenia in association with diabetes mellitus II type preferentially appears at the age more than 35 and has a favourable course. This endocrine disease does not prevent the penetrance of schizophrenic gene-complexes, but essentially enhance its expressivity. Schizophrenia and its biological features ease the course of diabetes mellitus.
