Genetic approaches for studying the role of trehalose in plants

Yatsyshyn V.Yu., Kvasko A.Yu., Yemets A.I.

Review

SUMMARY. The data about trehalose synthesis and its functions in plants are reviewed, the participation of trehalose in stress, particularly in tolerance to various kinds of abiotic stress was analysed. The phenotypic changes in transgenic plants overexpressed the trehalose biosynthesis genes and their resistance to stresses, in particular to drought were were discussed and analyzed.

Key words: trehalose, TPS1 and TPS2 genes, stress, plants, tolerance
