The influence of Ppd gene differences on agronomical traits of winter bread wheat

Cytology and Genetics 2007, v 41, number 6, 26-33

Dominant alleles of Ppd genes promote a reduction of the period before heading duration, a decrease of winter hardiness and frost resistance at the end of winter, as well as a significant increase of yield and some yield components. With regard to an extent of the winter hardiness and the frost resistance decrease in the years with hard winters and of the yield increase in the years with soft wintering conditions the dominant alleles can be attributed to the next order: Ppd-A1aPpd-B1aPpd-D1a. The Ppd gene effects in tall-growing plants are directed to the plant height decrease while in the plants of average height they are directed to its increase.
