SUMMARY. The paper presents the results of comparing the peculiarities of the modifying effects of astaxanthin (20,0 µg/ml) on the γ-quanta-induced chromosomal instability in human peripheral blood lymphocytes exposed in vitro (1,0 Gy) on G0, S and G2 stages of the cell cycle. The absence of astaxanthin effect on both the mean frequencies and spectra of radiation-induced chromosomal aberrations (p > 0,05) in cells irradiated on S and G2 stages of the mitotic cycle was demonstrated. The powerful protective effect of astaxanthin on the level of radiation-induced chromosomal instability (p < 0,001) was observed only in cells that were irradiated on the G0 stage. Thus, the dependence of radioprotective effect of astaxanthin on the stage of the mitotic cycle on which the cells were exposed to γ-quanta was established.
