Mutational Variability of Barley Hybrids under the Action of X-Rays and N-Nitroso-N-Ethylurea

SUMMARY. The combined and separate effect of X-rays and N-nitroso-N-ethylurea (NEU) has been studied on three intervarietal hybrids and four varieties of winter barley in M2.

The experimental results have shown that the intervarietal hybrids by the general frequency occurrence of mutations on the whole exceed their parent varieties and not only frequency but also a spectrum of mutations considerably depends on mutagen and genotype of barley.

Combination of two mutagens exerts no additive effect, but the spectrum of mutational variability widens in this case.
