Dynamics of the DNA Content in the Generative and Vegetative Cells of Pollen Grain in Species with Different Type of Male Gametophyte

Bugara A. M., Reznikova S. A., Egorova N. A.

SUMMARY. The dynamics of DNA content in the Feulgen-stained nuclei of microspores and pollen grains of Lilium candidum and Coriandrum sativum has been cytophotometrically studied. Both species with two- and three-celled male gametophyte has DNA accumulation in generative and vegetative cells. In L. candidum DNA replication in a vegetative cell occurs later than in a generative cell (at last stages of microgametogenesis), whereas in C. sativum DNA synthesis begins nearly simultaneously in both cells of young pollen grain.
